Milk to Cheese - Making Your Own Chevre

Saturday, October 12, 2024, 1:00pm - 4:00pm

with Valerie Wisniewski

Living lightly on the Earth? What better way than to make your own food! Meet our dairy goats and learn about goat housing, feeding, breeding, and milking. We’ll process the milk and make chevre, a delicious soft cheese, in our farmhouse kitchen, mixing it with home-grown organic herbs. We’ll sample several varieties of this gourmet food while we wait for the cheese to develop at different stages in the process. You’ll take home an equipment and materials list, recipes, and resource materials on raising goats, goat and milking equipment, and cheese making supplies. You will also take home the delicious chevre you make! Techniques learned in this class are adaptable to any type of milk source. Come meet others interested in the “slow food” movement, and learn a fun and useful skill that can help you along the road to self-sufficiency.
