The Great North Woods: Tracking Canada Lynx

Saturday, February 18 & Sunday, February 19, 2023, 8:30am to 5:45pm |

with Nick Wisniewski |
Solitary and elusive, the Lynx is the ultimate symbol of wilderness in New England. Knowing that this remarkable animal is making a comeback brings hope for the future of human coexistence with nature’s wildest spirits. The first encounter with the trail of this legendary animal is memorable and exciting. Without a doubt, this is the ultimate tracking experience in all of New England. The meeting location will be in Greenville Maine, at the southeast corner of Moosehorn Lake, where we will gather to carpool into the remote North Woods area near Baxter State Park. Greenville is approximately a five-hour drive from Boston, and a list of accomodations will be provided for lodging (including motel rooms with kitchen facilities; early booking is highly recommended to ensure a spot).
Location: Greenville, at Moosehead Lake, in central Maine |
The program will start promptly at 8:30 am each day, as there is a 45-minute ride into the area where Lynx roam. Days are long, to give us time to find and follow Lynx trails. The program will end at 5:45 - this includes the drive time back to Greenville so that folks will have free time to relax and have dinner.
Activity Level: Moderately strenuous snowshoeing and bushwhacking. Participants must be in good shape, as we will be bushwhacking considerable distances, possibly through difficult terrain (wherever the Lynx take us!). |
|||
Fee: $100 for both days |
