Bobcats in Vermont

Saturday, February 3, 2018, 9:45 am to 5 pm

One of the premier naturalists in the Northeast, Dr. Alcott Smith will lead this adventure into the wilds of Vermont in search of Bobcat track and sign. Alcott has a passion and reverence for the indigenous animals of northern New England, and his programs bring to life an animalís vital relationship with its habitat. Bobcats have been a special passion for Alcott, and this trip will take you into an area where he has followed the lives of these fascintating animals for many years. Hiking will be in very rough and wild terrain where there are no trails, so be prepared for a challenging, strenuous and physically demanding day. Snowshoes will be required. This full day of immersion in the winter world will be an experience you will not forget.

Location: This program will take place in west-central Vermont, possibly Fairhaven, West Haven, or Rutland, Vermont (Fairhaven is three-and-one-half hours from Boston; three hours from Springfield, Mass.). The actual location depends on snow cover and driving directions will be sent to registrants about a week beforehand (Two much snow may prohibit access by car; icy conditions may make a certain location unsuitable; etc. Alcott always scouts several areas and picks the best location for a program depending on the conditions at the time).

Activity Level: Very Strenuous! Please note: This will be a full-day off-trail in rugged country. Participants must be in excellent physical condition and must have proper footwear and clothing. A headlamp for the walk out is recommended.

Fee: $65 per person
