Bobcat Tracking

Saturday, February 8, 2020, 10:00am - 4:00pm

with John McCarter

Join John McCarter on an adventure exploring the world of one of his favorite animals, Lynx rufus. Bobcats shy away from human habitation, spending most of their time in secluded areas that are difficult to reach. A close "cousin" of the Canada Lynx, and in many behaviors similar to larger cats such as the Cougar, the Bobcat is like a hidden ghost of the forest. In addition to searching for their trails, we'll be on the lookout for signs of lays, scent posts, scat, and other clues left by this elusive, secretive, and fascinating animal. Come along as John shares his extensive experience and deep knowledge of the ways of the Bobcat.

John McCarter is one of the most knowledgeable and respected tracking experts in the northeast. He was senior staff instructor for Paul Rezendes Tracking and Nature Programs, and has taught the skills of tracking to hundreds of students. John has an uncanny ability to make amazing finds in the wild, including innumerable deer carcasses in the wild; the remains of a beaver killed and cached by a bobcat; two male moose that locked antlers and perished in a death struggle; and the find of a lifetime, the cache and scats of a mountain lion in the Quabbin. Be prepared for a memorable adventure!
