Tracking the Northeastern Coy-Wolf

Sunday, January 26, 2020, 10:00am - 4:30pm

with Nick Wisniewski

Today we will follow the trails of northeastern coyotes, immersing ourselves in the world of this fascinating animal. This is mating season, making especially interesting interactions. Scientific studies utilizing DNA analysis have shed insight on the origins of this remarkable animal. Originally a cross between western coyotes and Algonquin wolves, it now breeds true to itself - not a coyote, not a wolf, not a “coy-dog,” but a new species deserving of respect. Its adaptability and its resilience have the potential to teach us great lessons about ourselves and living in harmony with nature. Come join Nick on an all-day adventure, “walking with the coy-wolf.”

Location: New Salem, Massachusetts, near Quabbin Reservoir.

Activity Level: Moderately strenuous, considerably off-trail

Fee: $50/person
