Ecological Niches at the Elders Grove

Saturday, November 3, 2018, 10:00am - 1:30pm

with Bob Leverett

Join Bob Leverett to learn about the ecological niches that make up a complex forest mosaic. Geology, climate, weather, water, soil, plants, fungi, animals - all are interlocking pieces of the forest community. Bob will share his expertise in unravelling the mysteries of the forest, gleaned from a lifetime of exploration and research. Elders Grove is a magical place, with some of the most awe-inspiring, ancient white pines in New England, perched above the wild Deerfield River among majestic mountain peaks.

Location: Zoar, Massachusetts (in between Charlemont and Rowe)

Bob Leverett, co-founder and president of the Eastern Native Tree Society, is currently working with climate scientists studying the carbon-sequestration abilities of mature forest trees. Bob will discuss this important, ground-breaking research, among other topics.

Activity Level: Moderate, some off-trail

Fee: $50/person
