2014 Black Bear Research Project

July and August, 2014

Participation in this field study course is available by pre-arrangement, since groups must be kept small in order to minimize interference with bears. Participants can visit one or more of seven locations in Western Massachusetts and one in northern Connecticut. The focus is on collecting information about Black Bear "patterned walking" and the creation of “ritual trails.” While you are helping collect information, you will be learning about bear behavior as exhibited through their intentional walking and tree-marking. Participants must have sensitivity regarding the importance of Black Bears in the forested landscape. Call or e-mail for more information.
